5. Gnawnian Express

Power Type: Law
Minimum Rank: 11lordLord/Lady
Minimum Recommended Trap: S.L.A.C. II
Objective: Get at least the Engine Doubler
Recommended Area Progression Plan: Where Should I Go Next?

Once you’ve mastered Claw Shot City, the next adventure awaits! Travel to the Gnawnian Express Station. You can hear the station master shouting: “All aboard!” Make sure you have a decent amount of Fool’s Gold!train staffThe Gnawnian Express transports goods throughout Gnawnia in the name of the king. Sadly, the mice don’t care much for his majesty’s authority, so they regularly try to steal those supplies. Your job is to join forces with other hunters and, in a community effort, keep the goods safe and the mice at bay.

The trains work in a similar fashion to tournaments, except that:
– you don’t compete for a trophy,
– there’s a community reward bonus in addition to your team reward at the end, depending on how well the hunters on the train did as a whole, and
– trap checks can count towards getting points as well.train rewards summaryHowever, you do have to be on a team to be able to sign up for train rides.

The train rides are split into three different stages.

Supply Depot
The train hasn’t set off on its journey yet, because first of all you need to help load the crates carrying the goods onto it. Use Supply Schedule Charms to try and attract a Warehouse Manager. If anybody on your team that is going on the same train ride catches one, everybody on the team gets 5 hunts during which Supply Hoarder mice are released. You can catch them without supply charmSupply Schedule Charms equipped, but they seem to be more easily attracted when the charm is armed.

The crates that you occasionally get from the mice have to be loaded onto the train. Either load them as soon as you get them or wait until almost the end of the Supply Depot section of the train to load a whole bunch all at once. Just don’t leave it too late!duo

Raider River
The train is running through the prairie at high speed now, but that doesn’t stop the raiders from attacking it. They randomly try one of three different access points to enter the train carts: roof, doors, and wheels. The HUD tells you where they try to get in. If you buy the repellentcorresponding charm, you will attract raider mice much easier. Catch them to earn points and defeat wave after wave of raiders with your team. Careful though: Every hour the mice change their strategy and will try a different entry point, so be ready to change charms!

On hourly trap checks the raiders launch automated attacks. Catch one of their automatons and they will drop Raider Repellent. Each one repels one additional raider when used. Do it just like in the Supply Depot section: Either use them as soon as you get them or use them all up just before the Raider River part ends. engineer

Daredevil Canyon
A bridge spans across the canyon, yet the mice have blown it up! The train needs to gather as much speed as possible to jump the canyon! All the hunters are in the front of the train, shoveling Fuel Nuggets into the engine. This part of the train is sure to make it. But how many carts filled with crates can the hunters on the train save? The faster the train goes, the higher the reward will be.magmatic crystal

Use Dusty Coal Charms to catch mice that drop Black Powder Charms, and in turn use these to catch mice that drop Magmatic Crystal Charms.

Use the charms to collect Fuel Nuggets. Don’t use them as you get them though! The more Nuggets you throw in at once, the brighter the fire will burn. After you have collected 10 Nuggets, you’ll get an additional bonus point for each of the following 10, and an extra bonus of 5 when you get to 20. This gives you 35 points for 20 Nuggets. Once you hit 20, fire up that engine! You cannot stoke more than 20 Nuggets at a time, so hopefully you can stoke the engine full-blast and start collecting again before your ride ends.

mouseUp to 10 Crates, Repellent, and Fuel Nuggets can be saved for future train rides! Everything else expires. You’ll lose saved items if you leave the train early. (The actual train, not the hunting area.)

* Join a train with a team. Work with other hunters in a community effort to get rewards.
* Use Supply Schedule Charms in the Depot. Load crates as you get them.
* Use (Roof, Door, Wheel) Charms for Raiders. Use Raider Repellent as you get it.
* Use Dusty Coal Charms to get Black Powder Charms, use those to get Magmatic Crystal Charms. Catch mice dropping Fuel Nuggets. Collect nuggets to reach a point reward of as high as 35. Continue gathering again once you’ve reached 20 and stoked the engine.

Moz, which of the 3 train traps would you recommend getting first?

I’d recommend getting the Engine Doubler first. Attracting the Magmatic Golem can be really hard, because you might need lots and lots of the charms you can loot in that area. So getting these charms will be easier with that trap and the trap will also help in not missing the Golem once you do attract it. Furthermore the Canyon is the only part of the train where there’s an accumulative mini game going on, so the better your trap, the better your catch rate, the more you can get out of this area.
Another way of going would be to get the Bandit Deflector first, because of all the crafting materials for the traps you’ll need Copper Beads the most, so it’ll help in collecting them faster. Still, I’d go with the Engine Doubler. If you ask me, the Canyon is the most vital part of the train ride, due to the accumulative effect of using Fuel Nuggets, and because getting the Magmatic Golem can be an incredible hassle! I know what I’m taking about, it took me ages to get my first! 🙂

Hello Moz. I would like to ask if, in your opinion, that this area is profitable region for it’s level, compared to catacombs, derr dunes, etc? Thanks!

That’s always hard to say, it depends on setups. And I’m no expert on gold farming. I’d say in general the Gnawnian Express is not too bad, but can’t compete with Derr Dunes (with a strong setup) or high end Furoma cheese runs. It’s decent, but not spectacular.

Hi MozKa, thanks for the helpful guide. I have frequently visited during my play. I would like to ask if you would suggest to skip the SLAC II to get 1 Train Trap based on your experience? It’s a horrible catch ratch with SLAC I and even after gather enough 500 Fool Gold, we still need (a lot of) Fool Gold for Train Express. I am planning to skip SLAC II to save Fool Gold but I’m not sure SLAC I will be effective enough to gather such huge requirement for at least 1 Train Trap. Thank you

You’re right, SLAC I has a terrible catch rate in Claw Shot City. Going through that area in the beginning I remember as being very painful. That’s why I would suggest you get SLAC II before you go on train rides, because it doesn’t get any easier. It’s annoying to have to farm that much Fool’s Gold and then not being able to use it on the train immediately, but I still think this is the less painful way to go. Just my 2 cents, of course 🙂
Hopefully you can get a boost in materials during the Spring Egg Hunt, which is always helpful for progression anywhere. Or you could wait for Ronza and hope she brings an affordable, stronger Law type trap. But even if she does, I doubt she’ll be here before high summer again this year.

It’s me.. hehe.. I think the Devs know my pain. I spent like a month in Claw Shot city and earn just ~200 fool gold. This trap is much better than the SLAC II – “8:33 pm – SUPER|brie+ Factory
I purchased 1 Queso Factory Trap for 117,000 gold.”
