4. Crystal Library
Power Type: Physical / Tactical
Minimum Rank: Lord/Lady
Minimum Recommended Traps: Enraged Rhinobot / Zugzwang’s First Move
Recommended Area Progression Plan: Where Should I Go Next?
Failed or successful Tower run, hopefully you were able to acquire a Library Card. Before you continue hunting in the Garden and the Tower, you should immediately check out the Library. Here you can take on Assignments that will give you extra stuff once completed, and they are necessary to catch the boss mouse of this region, Zurreal. Trap wise, your best Physical or Tactical trap will do nicely here. Some mice are more vulnerable to RageBot, some to the Venus Mouse Trap or Zugzwang’s First Move.
I mentioned the Tower Assignments. From now on you should never do a Tower run without having started a Tower Assignment at the same time, because that way you‘ll get double King‘s loot from a normal run. Would be foolish not to profit from this, right?
The Assignments that play out in the Library are pretty straight forward: catch the mice. You should realize that some may command you to catch a Tome Sprite Mouse. These are SB+ only, so using any other bait (Brie is sufficient here and will help maximize your profits) will not work. But no harm done, if you don‘t want to use SB+, simply smash your Assignment with the Hunter‘s Hammer. With regard to smashing an assignment, one hour from the time you smash it, you‘ll be able to start another.
Some assignments may ask of you to catch mice with a specific trap or base. You might want to invest in Zugzwang‘s Last Move or the Bamboozler Base for example if you don‘t want to be forced to smash Assignments once in a while. But at least now these items don‘t seem so pricy anymore, right?
Once you’ve collected 900 Library points from Assignments, one final Assignment will send you around the entire Kingdom to collect trap loot that will allow you to craft the one trap that is able to catch Zurreal the Eternal: Zurreal‘s Folly. This is not all you need, however, you‘ll also have to get your hands on a Scholar Charm.
You will get one from the Assignment you just completed, the one leading you to get the trap. You can also get these by catching a Chess Master, provided you arm an Uncharged Scholar Charm (which you can buy) prior to the catch. Since Tower runs are still kind of hard at this stage and catching Zurreal is not necessary to advance to the next area, some hunters opt for leaving this for later, because there are some very nice traps you can buy/craft soon. Zurreal will drop the Blueprints for a Shadow trap, the Reaper‘s Perch. However, once you hit Baron, you can go to Fort Rox and get an even better trap there. So my advice is to save the gold and not bother with the Perch.
Once you hit the rank of Count/Countess, you may want to come back to the Library. New assignments are waiting for you if you have at least 1500 Library Points. A mouse that can only be caught once you finish these assignments is hiding somewhere in the kingdom. First you need to craft the only bait that it will go for, Fusion Fondue. You will get 3 pieces per assignment, 6 if you use Magic Essence in the crafting process.
You may want to do the assignment a few times before actually advancing to the proper M400 Assignment. The first reason would be to gather enough cheese to get the M400 when you first encounter it, because it’s a toughie! The second reason: You need 1900 Library Points to start the assignment.
Once you actually hunt for the M400, you will have to find a string of clues that lead you to where the mouse is hiding. With every assignment it’s a different region. The last clue will tell you where to go. Arm your Fondue Fusion and strongest trap/base combination. A very lucky and/or very powerful charm might also help in preserving your precious cheese. Good luck!
(It is worth noting, though, that this is entirely a sidequest.)
* Take on Assignments and collect at least 900 Library Points.
* Whenever you feel like it, charge Scholar Charms, do the Zurreal Assignment and catch Zurreal the Eternal.
* Likewise, you may also do the M400 sidequest when you’re ready.
