The Rare Breeds

Some mice visit your traps more often than others.
Some almost never bother to stop by. How rude!
And most of the time, there‘s not much you can do about it.

Very early in the game you can theoretically attract the SB+ only breeds. All you need is SB+. Non-donators might gather SB+ here and there on the way through the game and decide to come back to the early regions at an advanced stage of their game. The Pebble, Tiny, Flying, Fog, Speedy, Magic, Frosty Snow, Silvertail, Nibbler, Farmhand and Black Widow can be collected this way. Basically people go from region to region that feature these mice, starting with the one featuring the most in one place.

• Black Widows can be attracted almost everywhere, sometimes even with region-specific bait like Radioactive Blue or Wicked Gnarly.

• Moles are somewhat rare, but with patience you‘ll nab one sooner or later.

• Crown Collector mice are a somewhat newer and unique addition to the game. These mice have a fancy for SB+, but that‘s not all. It gets easier to attract them once the number of Silver and Gold Crowns you have collected rises.

• The Nugget Mouse has already been covered in the Digby with Limelight section of the Walkthrough. All you can do is wait and hope.

• The rare breed of Furoma is the Assassin. Those are not only rare but also quite tough. You can attract them with standard cheese, but they are somewhat easier to attract with Maki or SB+. Good luck!

• Forbidden Grove: A breed that is somewhat rare, although not terribly rare, is the Reaper. Ancient cheese is the way to go here.

• The Ship features some of the more rare mice: For Swabbie you can use Brie or Gouda (it is actually quite allergic to SB+), the Mermouse can be attracted with Brie, Gouda or, for best results, SB+, the Cook is a SB+ only mouse, and the Shelder (which can be attracted by all of the aforementioned cheese types) is the most rare non-event mouse in the whole game. For some people it takes months to get one, literally!

• The latest addition to the Jungle of Dread, the Pygmy Wrangler, can be attracted by Gouda as well as SB+. It‘s only semi-rare.

• The Tidal Fisher in Balack‘s Cove is also only semi-rare, it is attracted by Vanilla Stilton.

• The Chrono Mouse in the Acolyte Realm is not only relatively rare, it is also pretty tough to catch.

• The Seasonal Garden features two SB+ only breeds, one in Spring, one in Fall, the two Familiars.

• In the Crystal Library, Tome Sprite is a SB+ only breed. The Aether however, while attracted by standard type cheeses, will simply come out more often if you use SB+. But even then it‘s not really abundant, on a level with Assassin probably.

• As is the Desert Nomad in Muridae Market, easier to attract with SB+ than with standard cheese, but still somewhat rare. Although, probably not as rare as Aether. On top of that, MM features a SB+ only breed, the Desert Architect.

• There‘s a SB+ only mouse in the Shoreline as well, the Living Ice Mouse.

• With the Iceberg‘s unique mechanics, the Living Salt Mouse can be seen as partly rare. You‘d be lucky to get one during a normal Iceberg run, however, they are abundant once you’ve let the Iceberg smash all three bonus chests, or once you’re in the Hidden Depths.

• General Drheller on the other hand, is clearly a rare mouse. You can only get him during the General stage. He barely ever comes out of hiding. And when he does, he‘s quite hard to catch. A strategy has surfaced to get him though: Get to the General stage, arm your weakest setup and intentionally fail to catch a General. That way you can see which one you’ve attracted (and that you‘ll attract for two more hunts). If it‘s not Drheller, don‘t change your setup and keep FTCing. Do that as long as it takes to attract Drheller, then change to your best setup and hope you can catch him during the next two encounters. Otherwise begin again. This is potentially very frustrating and can take days of FTCing, but is the only reliable way to make sure you‘ll get him if you don‘t want to wait for him to naturally be caught during some Iceberg run.

• In Claw Shot City you might have problems attracting a Pyrite. SB+ helps to attract them a little easier, but regular cheese will also make that one come to your trap eventually.

• On the train the most elusive mouse is the Magmatic Golem. Some hunters are lucky and get several early on when they use their first Magmatic Crystal charms, but several unfortunate souls, myself included, need dozens of Crystal charms before that guy even shows up. And Crystal charms are somewhat hard to come by…

• Among the Gnawnian Rift mice, there are a few that are pretty rare when you don’t use Magical String, but relatively easy to attract with this special type of cheese. These are: Micro, Dream Drifter and Mighty Mole. The attraction rate for Wealth and Raw Diamond mice also climbs with Magical String, the best way to get these though is to use Riftiago.

• In the Burroughs Rift there’s a Magical String-only mouse: The Portable Generator.

• The Nightshade Masquerade in the Fungal Cavern is SB+ only. However, if you hunt with SB+, Mouldy Mole, Sporeticus, and Spore Muncher are somewhat on the rare side. These are easier to attract with standard cheeses like Brie or Gouda.

• Of the Meteorite Miners, the Meteorite Mover is semi-rare, about 1 in 10 compared to every other mouse there.

• The Sleepy Merchant of Queso Canyon is an SB+ only mouse.

• The Homeopathic Apothecary in Moussu Picchu can only be attracted with Glowing Gruyere, while the Nightshade Maiden is SB+ only. In that same area, the Dragoon is relatively rare, but will eventually be caught through regular hunting.
